HWS Career Treks

Career Treks are offered during winter and spring breaks allowing you to network and learn more about particular industries. All programs are coordinated in conjunction with alum and parent participation as site hosts and speakers. Annual programs include:  

• Application Open: The NYC Finance Experience is an annual winter break experience which provides students with a 3-day immersive opportunity to explore New York City’s role as one of the world’s leading financial centers while connecting with HWS alums, parents and friends of the Colleges. Through site visits, informational sessions set in board rooms and networking conversations, students gain firsthand insight into industries such as investment banking, asset management, wealth management, commercial banking, fintech, insurance, private equity,  and sales and trading. Participants will learn how HWS graduates have built meaningful careers across the financial services landscape while developing the professional connections, industry knowledge and career readiness skills that can help shape their own paths after graduation.
• Spring Semester: The Investment Banking Trek is designed primarily for rising sophomores who are preparing for the highly accelerated recruiting timeline in investment banking. Because many firms begin recruiting for junior-year summer analyst internships as early as sophomore year, this May experience gives students an important opportunity to build industry knowledge, strengthen professional confidence and begin making connections before key application deadlines arrive. Through site visits, alumni conversations and employer panels in New York City, students gain firsthand exposure to the work, culture and expectations of investment banking. Participants will learn about common pathways in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, leveraged finance, industry coverage groups and financial sponsors, while also exploring the technical, analytical and communication skills needed to be competitive candidates.
  The Investment Banking Trek helps rising sophomores make a plan, understand the pace of the industry, and take purposeful next steps toward a future in finance.
• Application Open: The Boston Business Trek gives business-focused students the opportunity to explore Boston’s dynamic professional landscape while connecting with HWS alums, parents and friends of the Colleges. Through site visits, networking conversations and career-focused panels, participants gain firsthand insight into fields such as marketing, entrepreneurship, business analytics, sales, operations and real estate. Students will learn how HWS graduates have built meaningful careers in one of the nation’s most innovative business hubs while developing connections that can help shape their own paths after graduation.
• Application Open: The STEM Career Trek to Boston is a multi-day career exploration program that includes visits to organizations in the science, technology, engineering, mathematics, data, and research sectors. Previous treks have included visits to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, HubSpot, and Triumvirate Environmental. Our Career Treks feature visits to organizations and employers connected through alums, parents and friends of the Colleges that reflect the breadth of STEM-related career opportunities. Participating students will meet with professionals, learn about a variety of STEM career paths, and gain exposure to different workplace environments and organizational cultures.
• Application Open: The Day on the Hill program takes students inside governmental organizations, non-profits, NGOs and other Washington, D.C. institutions for a multi-day experiential insight into politics, policy and more. Students will hear from alums working in D.C. on topics such as Environmental/Sustainabilty Policy and Life on the Hill, as well as visit the U.S. Secret Service Headquarters and the U.S. International Trade Commission.
